Minga Overview

Minga is a student behavior & engagement platform. It’s estimated that the average school district in the US is using nearly 3,000 distinct edtech tools (EdTech Top 40 report, 2025). All data resides in the United States and is hosted in partnership with Google.

Safety & Security of Student Data

Minga meets United States federal and state standards for data collection, storage, usage, and sharing of personal data. We never collect unnecessary information, and we never share it for any reason outside of your school or district including names or email addresses.

Single Sign-On (SSO) methods

Minga supports several SSO methods to reduce credential risk and simplify user access. Users can securely log in using existing district credentials.

  1. Minga supports login using the following SSO methods:

    • Google

    • Microsoft

    • Clever

    • ClassLink

  2. If no SSO is available, Email and password is also an option.

Importing Student Data from your SIS

To create Minga accounts and ensure the best Minga experience, we sync with your SIS nightly to import the information listed:

Minga rosters directly with your Student Information System via MingaSync. Your student and staff data will populate automatically in Minga daily via either a direct integration or SFTP depending on your SIS and your needs!

  1. We send you a connection request

  2. You select your SIS

    1. If your SIS is One Roster compatible: Share your API end point, the token end point, client ID, and client secret.

    2. If your SIS needs SFTP connection: We’ll send you SFTP host port, username, and password. Log in & share your data with us via CSV file. We’re hands on with you through this stage to make sure we have all the info we need. For full SFTP data share process, see the support guide here.

  3. We do the sync and connect to Minga. Rostering happens nightly!

Bell Schedule configuration

Minga’s Bell Schedule feature associates class schedules with specific periods in the school day, leveraging data from your school's SIS to be displayed across your Minga. Schools using the Bell Schedule feature enjoy:

  • Real-time visibility into student whereabouts, like their current class, is displayed on their digital ID

  • Automated the upload of tardy data to the SIS

  • Ease for teachers to navigate their classes in Minga via their class schedule

Note: Bell Schedule feature is only accessible to schools with a Minga Premium subscription.

Set Up Steps

  1. Populate term data directly from your SIS.

  2. Match each school period to the Short Code provided by your SIS.

  3. Enter the Start Time and End Time for every period.

  4. Click Publish to make the schedule live for the school.

  5. For more complex bell schedules, collaborate with your assigned Minga CSM to guide the initial setup.

Exporting data to your SIS

Minga’s reporting makes it easy to get valuable insights into student behavior, attendance, and participation, helping your teams make data-driven decisions quickly and efficiently.

To export student data to reconcile data back to your SIS:

  1. Open the specific module you need data from, such as Hall Pass or Behavior.

  2. Navigate to the Reporting tab.

  3. Set your desired date range.

  4. Click Export List to generate a CSV file mapped to student IDs.

  5. Map the CSV columns to your SIS data fields and upload the file to your SIS .

Tip: Save time by scheduling recurring exports to generate automatically on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.

  1. Vendor Agreements or Approval

    Please submit your vendor application to [email protected].

  2. Data Sharing or Privacy Agreement

    Minga is registered through A4L, and you can find our registered privacy agreement here. If you require a district agreement to be completed, please submit it to [email protected].

  3. Request District Manager Account Permissions in Minga
    This provides administrative access to all schools within your district to create district-wide processes and settings. Let your Minga contact know which individuals need this access.

  4. Update Web Filter/Firewall Policy and Permissions
    Please ensure Minga domains and App IDs are whitelisted and allowed through your Web or Application Filters for seamless access and integration.

  5. Set Up Single Sign-On Authentication

    Configure SSO to allow users to securely access Minga with their existing district credentials.

  6. Set Up Automatic Rostering
    Set Up daily rostering syncs with your SIS and Minga via direct integration with OneRoster API, Clever, Classlink or SFTP.

  7. Attend a Live Training Session

    Join a group live training session to learn how to successfully use Minga and make the most of its core features.

Troubleshooting

Users cannot access the Minga website on the school network. If users cannot access Minga on your network, verify that *.minga.io is whitelisted in your web filter and firewall policy.

Student data is not updating from the SIS. If student data is not updating, check your SFTP or API connection status. Minga syncs data nightly, so changes made in your SIS today will appear in Minga tomorrow.

Is Minga compliant with student privacy laws?

Minga is FERPA and COPPA compliant and meets United States federal and state standards for data collection, storage, and usage.

Where is Minga data stored?

All Minga data resides in the United States and is hosted in partnership with Google Cloud.

What happens if my SIS is not on the supported list?

If your SIS is not on the supported list, the Minga support team will work with you to ensure a smooth integration regardless of the system you use .
