How to Use Manual Automation Counter Resets

You can correct a student’s progressive discipline step by updating the automation counter inside the relevant automation group.

Step-by-step Guide to Updating Counters for Specific Students

  1. Navigate to Behavior Manager and open Behaviors.
    ○ Open the admin area where your school manages behavior automations and related settings.

  2. Select Automations.
    ○ The Automations section lists all automation groups tied to your progressive discipline workflows.

  3. Select the Automation Group that contains the consequence you need to correct.
    ○ Choose the automation group that is currently assigning the incorrect consequence (for example, your tardy policy group).

  4. Click the Pencil icon on the Automation Group.
    ○ The edit view opens and shows configuration options for the automation group.

  5. Locate the dropdown under Manual automation counter reset.
    ○ The reset control appears as a dropdown that lets you choose how broadly to apply the reset.

  6. Click Select student(s).
    ○ Selecting Select student(s) opens student selection tools and filters.

    ○ You can search by student Name, Group, List, Grade, or Role.
    ○ You can upload a CSV file to select students in bulk.
    ○ You can scan the student’s Digital ID using a scanner or a device camera.

  8. Click Apply filters and select the student(s) to reset.
    ○ The student list updates based on your filters, and you can choose one or more students from the results.

  9. Enter the new automation counter value.
    ○ The counter value determines which behavior threshold the student is currently set to in the automation sequence.

Step-by-step Guide to Updating Counters for All Students

  1. Navigate to Behavior ManagerBehaviorsAutomations.
    ○ Open the same automation group used by your progressive discipline framework.

  2. Select the relevant Automation Group
    ○ Confirm you are editing the correct automation group before applying an “all students” reset.

  3. Click the Pencil icon and locate Manual automation counter reset.
    ○ The reset dropdown appears in the automation group edit view.

  4. Select All Students from the dropdown.
    ○ Choosing All Students applies the counter update to every student currently tracked in that automation group.

  5. Enter the desired behavior threshold number.
    ○ Use 0 to reset the entire group to the starting point, or enter the number of behaviors to align with the step threshold value that aligns with your policy.

Troubleshooting

Issue: The wrong students appear after filtering.
Solution: You can correct filter results by clearing filters, reselecting Group, List, Grade, or Role, and clicking Apply filters again.

Issue: The counter reset does not change the student’s step.
Solution: Confirm the reset applied by reopening the Automation Group, returning to Manual automation counter reset, and verifying the counter value you entered matches the intended threshold step.

Issue: The student cannot be found in search.
Solution: You can locate the student by switching from name search to filtering by Group, List, Grade, or Role, or by using a CSV file upload or Digital ID scan.

Pro Tip: You can document your discipline sequence thresholds (for example, 1 = warning, 3 = lunch detention) in a shared internal reference so counter resets are consistent across administrators.
